Alcoutim wins “Resilient Cities and Villages” certificate

In a ceremony that took place in Loulé

The Municipality of Alcoutim was awarded the “Resilient Cities and Towns” certificate during the 8th National Resilient Cities and Towns Meeting, which took place in the city of Loulé from the 24th to the 26th of May.

The recognition was given due to the renewed commitment to the international campaign Make Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030).

The MCR2030 – Making Cities Resilient 2030 program «aims to encourage the adoption of practices aimed at reducing the risk of disaster through prevention and preparation of the population, contributing to increasing the resilience of cities to disasters. In Portugal there are only about 50 distinguished municipalities, including the 16 municipalities in the Algarve», according to the Alcoutim Chamber.

«The Algarve, through a joint application, was constituted as a pilot region because it is the only region in the world in which all municipalities meet the criteria of a resilient region and because they are involved in the pursuit of the same objectives and causes», he adds.
