“The Copa do Guadiana” is back at VRSA and will have “the biggest edition ever”

Competition will be divided into three moments

4500 participants, including athletes and staff, and 272 teams will make Vila Real de Santo António the «capital of youth football», between the 25th of June and the 3rd of July, in yet another edition of the tournament “A Copa do Guadiana” , which will take place at the Sports Complex of this city.

The games will take place at the Sports Complex of Vila Real de Santo António, Campo Francisco Gomes Socorro and the Sports Complex of Monte Gordo and run daily from 8:30 am.

This will be «the biggest edition ever» of the competition, which is the biggest national football tournament held in a single municipality.

This year, the tournament will be divided into three stages. From the 25th to the 28th of June (football 11) the Juveniles (athletes born in 2006/2007), Beginners (athletes born in 2008/2009) and Infantis A (athletes born in 2010) levels will compete.

Between the 28th of June and the 1st of July, the Infantis A levels enter the field for the first time with the football 9 variant (athletes born in 2010). The Infantis B (athletes born in 2011) and Benjamins A (athletes born in 2012), in football 7, enter the field on the same dates.

Between the 1st and 3rd of July (soccer 7 and football 5) the Benjamins B (athletes born in 2013), Traquinas A (athletes born in 2014) and Traquinas B (athletes born in 2015) compete.

On the 25th of June, at 20 pm, the opening parade will take place, with the 30 football teams, «promoting conviviality and a festive atmosphere among all participants. This moment will be repeated on the 11st of July, at 1 pm, and will be considered the opening ceremony of the tournament for the remaining categories», according to the VRSA Chamber.

 

 

The competition is divided into nine levels, namely under-08 (soccer 5), 09, 10, 11, 12 and 13 (soccer 7, 9 and 11), under-15 and under-17 (soccer 11), with all the conditions for games at the highest level with young people between 7 and 17 years old.

For the mayor of VRSA, Álvaro Araújo, «the presence, in the municipality, of dozens of teams and hundreds of participants from different regions of the country, for more than a week, creates a unique dynamic that benefits not only the economy place, but also promotes our city as a reference tourist and sports destination".

«Through the Copa do Guadiana, we are strengthening our position as the capital of youth football, providing athletes, coaches and families with an unforgettable experience, and contributing to the sports and personal training of the participants», he adds.

Around 80 people are allocated to the event for support and support, namely at the technical level. During the entire event, the «Copa do Guadiana Bus» line will be created to transport thousands of athletes between the accommodations and the game venues.
