«It feels great to come to the Caldeirada Festival» said João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA), on the morning of this Friday, the 26th, at the opening of the 24th edition of the event dedicated to that delicacy, in Armação de Pêra .
The person in charge of Algarve Tourism added that, in addition to the «challenge, which is already an obligation, of moving towards sustainable tourism», it is necessary to «enrich tourist visits, with initiatives such as this festival, which values local gastronomic traditions, and contribute for the well-being of those who live here”.
For her part, Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, underlined the fact that the festival takes place «outside the high tourist season», when it is necessary to attract tourists who spend money to the main seaside resort of the municipality.
The mayor also stressed that the richness of local fishing, which translates into the gastronomy offered by the restaurants in Armação, has a lot to do with Pedra do Valado, the rocky reef that is unique on the Portuguese coast and that is on the way to becoming a protected area.
In an initiative promoted by the Municipality of Silves, the 24th Caldeirada e do Mar Festival runs until Sunday, May 28, in Armação de Pêra.
O Silvense, A Grelha, Estrela-do-mar, Ingredients, O Fernando, O Serol, Olivalmar, Pelintra, Praia com Tempero, Tasca'lado, Néné's restaurant, O Balbino barbecue, O Casarão barbecue and Hera seafood restaurant are the establishments adherents with more than two dozen delicious and succulent proposals, where the stew is the queen and the flavors of the sea the great cicerones.
In a weekend dedicated to maritime gastronomy, the county's star products will also be present, such as wines from Silves and desserts made with the sweet and aromatic Orange from Silves, with a lot of entertainment in the mix.
In addition to the tastiest and freshest flavors of the stew and the sea, so emblematic of this fishing village, diners are entitled to win tickets to some of the summer events promoted by the municipality.
Four tickets to a 2023 Sunset Secret session, four free entry wristbands to the Silves Medieval Fair in 2023, and a double ticket to Side B with Capicua (to be held on September 22) are the prizes that will be drawn , provided that all those who have their meals in participating restaurants; fill in the tender coupon and attach the invoice.
The draw will take place in the week following the end of the Festival and the winners will be announced through the website and social networks of the Municipality of Silves.
