«Receiving this prize here is a joy», confessed Miguel Esteves Cardoso this Thursday, May 18, at the ceremony for the delivery of the Grand Prize for Literary Chronicles and Disperses, by the Portuguese Association of Writers (APE) and the Municipality of Loulé.
The writer and chronicler, born in Lisbon, received the award with the book “Independente Demente”, published by Bertrand in 2022, in this, the 8th edition of this initiative which Loulé “can no longer do without”.
«This is our contribution to the country's literary production. We think that reading, culture, writing and literary fantasy are very important for the formation of demanding citizens, capable of reading the world and who are free from a critical spirit and observers of a world that inspires concern in us», said Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, Sul Informação on the sidelines of the ceremony.
MEC, on the other hand, made a point of highlighting its gratitude towards this Algarve Municipality. «When I say thank you, I mean that for the rest of my life I have this loyalty to the APE and to Loulé», he said, showing himself to be very happy with the distinction.
The 8th edition of the Grand Prize for Chronic Literature and Literary Disperses was awarded by a jury made up of António Apolinário Lourenço, Carlos Albino Guerreiro and Maria de Lurdes Sampaio.
José Manuel Mendes, president of APE, also highlighted the importance of MEC's work due to the fact that «we read the texts today and they are entirely alive».
Carlos Albino reinforced the writer's contribution to society and referred that «the chronicle of Miguel Esteves Cardoso is today the literature of destiny».
