PSD/Algarve recalls «many legacies» that José Estevens left in Castro Marim

For the PSD/Algarve, Estevens was «an exemplary public servant»

The PSD/Algarve regretted, this Wednesday, May 24, the death of José Fernandes Estevens, former president of the Castro Marim City Hall, recalling the «many legacies» he left.

The death of the former mayor was received with "deep sadness and consternation" by the Algarve's social democrats.

«José Fernandes Estevens was president of the PSD/Castro Marim and mayor of that same Municipality for 16 years, functions he performed with indisputable competence, always dedicated to the causes of local and regional development and committed to the success of those he represented».

For the PSD/Algarve, Estevens was «an exemplary public servant», leaving «many legacies of his dynamism and his creative and innovative spirit in the Municipality of Castro Marim».

José Estevens was mayor of Castro Marim for 16 years, between 1998 and 2013, always elected by the PSD.

In 2013, having reached the three consecutive terms permitted by law, he was unable to run for office again in Castro Marim, giving way to Francisco Amaral, until then president of the neighboring municipality of Alcoutim, who won the elections.

That same year, Estevens ran for the Chamber of Tavira, but was defeated by the socialist Jorge Botelho.

In 2016, Estevens starred in um iron arm with Francisco Amaral, jthat, being leader of the Municipality of the Castromarinense PSD, he took away his political confidence, because he also intended to be the candidate for the Chamber again.

But National Political Commission of Social Democrats maintained its support for the re-candidacy of the current mayor Francisco Amaral and Estevens ended up by slam the door to his decades-long party in protest.

In 2017, he ran for an independent movement (Castro Marim Primeiro – CM1), but, despite being elected councilor, he lost the election to Francisco Amaral.
