Teachers announce strikes for exams and final evaluations

Union organizations also leave the promise to maintain the fight in the next school year, if the problems remain

Nine teachers' union organizations announced today that they are going to strike at national exams and final assessments, leaving the promise to continue the fight in the next school year, if the problems persist.

«The trade union organizations gathered here today have decided to go on strike for the exams and strike for the final assessments. And more, they also decided that, if we still reach the end of the school year and the problems remain, at the beginning of the next school year, teachers will be here to continue their fight», revealed the secretary general of the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) Mario Nogueira.

In a press conference that took place during lunchtime at EB 2.3 Rainha Santa Isabel, in Coimbra, Mário Nogueira explained that this was a decision taken by nine teachers' unions.

«In our hands was deciding whether or not to present the strike notices, which are presented or will still be presented within the legally established deadlines. From now on, the responsibility lies entirely with the Ministry of Education until the day before the start of any strike, be it exams or assessments», he said.

According to Mário Nogueira, the “ball” is now on the side of the Ministry of Education.

The union leader recalled that on Tuesday, June 6, a day that they consider unrepeatable as it coincides with the six years, six months and 23 days that teachers have to recover from their time of service, a general strike is scheduled, without minimum services decreed.

Demonstrations are also scheduled in Lisbon and Porto.

In addition to Fenprof, this platform includes teacher union organizations such as the Associação Sindical de Professores Licenciados (ASPL), the National Education Federation (FNE), the Pró-Ordem dos Professors (Pró-Ordem), the National and Democratic Union of Teachers (Sindep), the National Union of Education Professionals (Sinape), the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators (SIPE), the National Union of Teachers Licensed by Polytechnics and Universities (Spliu) and the Union of Educators and Licensed Teachers (SEPLEU) .
