Portimão celebrates the work of the artisanal fishermen community of Alvor

As part of the celebrations of the National Fisherman's Day, which is celebrated on the 31st of May

The Municipality of Portimão will celebrate the work of the artisanal fishermen community of Alvor, as part of the celebrations of the National Fisherman's Day, which is celebrated on the 31st of May.

The day will be celebrated in collaboration with the Museum of Portimão, the Parish Council of Alvor, the Association of Professional Fishermen of Alvor and the Grouping of Schools of Bemposta, with activities for several generations.

On the 31st, 4th year students and a 3rd year class from EB1 in Alvor will visit Alvor's fishing warehouses, as part of the school's cultural project in the "Art and Territory" section, with work on the Legend of the Three Brothers.

On this visit, students will have the opportunity to learn a little more about fishing and fishermen in the village, with a meeting point scheduled for 10:00 am, next to the riverside area.

During the visit, guided by the Museum of Portimão and with the participation of the Association of Professional Fishermen of Alvor and the local Parish Council, students will be able to watch the work of sea professionals, and at the end they will be able to paint a mural on scenery paper, alluding to the ephemeris.

For the 3rd of June, Saturday, a visit was scheduled, also guided by the Museum of Portimão, to the riverside area of ​​Alvor around its history, daily life, activities and equipment linked to the maritime-fishing tradition.

Starting with the lifeguard and ending at the fishing warehouses in Alvor, this activity will include a conversation about artisanal fishing today, with the participation of the Association of Professional Fishermen of Alvor and the operators of the sector, which will be followed by a speech by Ivo Carvalho, president of the Parish Council, addressed to the fishing community.

The program ends with a moment of conviviality.
