PAN wants regulation of ecological restoration by the end of the year

The Party also defends the creation of a working group with a view to preparing a Structure for Climate Adaptation of Biodiversity

People-Animals-Natureza (PAN) today launched an initiative in which it proposes that, by next year, Portugal should draw up and approve a national plan for ecological restoration in compliance with the community regulation on this matter, as well as proceed with the creation of a biodiversity climate adaptation framework and a financing model for biodiversity conservation and restoration.

«One year after the approval of the European Commission regulation, the Ecological Restoration Law, to date, it is not known that Portugal is in preparation - or is finalizing - the obligations that arise therefrom, namely the elaboration of a national plan of recovery of nature», says PAN spokesperson and deputy Inês de Sousa Real.

«The commitment to ecological restoration, in addition to nature conservation measures, is as or more pressing as is the fact that, in our country, biodiversity has been in sharp decline since the early 1970s», vinca.

In this sense, the PAN says that it wants Portugal to "anticipate as much as possible the elaboration and approval of a national recovery plan, with compliance targets, respective time horizon and sources of financing".

In addition, the party defends the creation of a working group with a view to preparing a Structure for Climate Adaptation of Biodiversity, defended in the Biodiversity 2030 report, and a proposal for a financing model for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
