The Algarve municipalities of Lagos, Portimão, Monchique, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira, Alcoutim and Castro Marim present today a maximum danger of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

In addition to these, Portalegre, Marvão, Castelo de Vide, Nisa, Gavião (Portalegre), Vila Velha de Ródão, Proença-a-Nova (Castelo Branco), Mação, Sardoal (Santarém) and Sabugal (Guarda) are under the same alert .

In high danger are 50 municipalities of Faro, Beja, Lisbon, Coimbra, Santarém, Viseu, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Vila Real and Bragança.

The IPMA also placed several municipalities in all districts of the mainland, except Aveiro, Porto and Viana do Castelo, which today present a high risk of fire.

The fire hazard, determined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The Institute foresees, at least until Saturday, a worsening of the risk of rural fire.

Since the beginning of the year, the 2.555 fire occurrences have already affected 7.672 hectares of rural areas.

The IPMA forecasts for today on the continent generally very cloudy skies, periods of light rain in the North and Center until the beginning of the afternoon, sometimes strong wind on the west coast and in the highlands and a slight decrease in the maximum temperature.

The minimum temperatures will fluctuate between 10 degrees Celsius (in Braga) and 19 (in Faro) and the maximum between 21 (in Braga and Viana do Castelo) and 33 (in Évora).
