Lagos is already building “its” section of the Ecovia do Litoral Algarve

Work should be completed within half a year

Construction work on the Ecovia do Litoral Algarvio, in the municipality of Lagos, is already underway and should be completed within about 6 months.

The section in question will connect Burgau to Ribeira de Odiáxere, in a total length of 15,1 kilometres.

The intervention will cost 530 euros (plus VAT) and benefits from financial support of 50% from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), awarded under the regional operational program CRESC Algarve 2020 and the Sustainable Urban Mobility Action Plan ( PAMUS) of the Algarve, which "reinforces the amount eligible for funding, which goes from 350 to 559 thousand euros, covering project, work and inspection expenses".

«To carry out this action, the municipality also submitted an application to Turismo de Portugal, which finances 30% of the eligible investment by CRESC Algarve», according to the Câmara de Lagos.

With the construction of its section of the coastal ecovia, Lagos aims to contribute to the «national, regional and municipal» objective of increasing active cycling mobility, «crucial for the decarbonisation of mobility, by favoring the adoption of more sustainable forms of travel , such as the use of bicycles, and, at the same time, maximize the benefits for the well-being of citizens, providing them with healthier lifestyles».
