Requalification works have already begun on two streets in Praia do Carvoeiro

Intervention should take just 30 days, to be ready before summer

The requalification works of Rua das Flores and Rua das Amoreiras, in Praia do Carvoeiro, in a total investment of 148840 euros, already started on the 2nd of May and should be completed at the beginning of next June.

The intervention is being carried out in two phases, in order to always guarantee car access to the Carvoeiro elementary school, to Algar Seco, to the walkways and to the headland of the Chapel and Fort of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação.

Thus, work began on Rua da Flores, the main access to those areas, in particular to Algar Seco, a tourist spot par excellence in Praia do Carvoeiro.

Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, confirmed to the Sul Informação that, only after the work is completed on this first artery will the works move on to Rua das Amoreiras.

The two interventions became necessary due to the "degradation of the pavement and sidewalks, as well as the lack of organization of circulation and car parking", added the mayor.

In total, it is expected that the execution period of the works will be 30 days, so the mayor of Lagoa appeals to the «understanding of the population, businessmen and hoteliers», promising «to be brief».

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the Municipality of Lagoa explains that “the contracting procedure for the requalification of these two streets was launched in May 2022 and had the beginning of October 2022 as the scheduled date for the start of works”.

However, «in view of the current market situation, with the inflation of the price of materials, the scarcity of raw materials, and the lack of manpower on the part of private companies, it was not possible to start the intervention on the initially scheduled date».

For this reason, the Câmara de Lagoa decided to start the works «only after the Easter holidays and the April 25th holiday, periods of great tourist influx in the Algarve region, and before the summer».

For now, and until work begins to replace the water pipes, there will be no more major interventions in Praia do Carvoeiro, concluded President Luís Encarnação.
