Azinhal fire is in the aftermath phase

Fire was reported as contained at 23:24 yesterday

The fire that broke out yesterday afternoon, Friday, in an area of ​​bush in Almada de Ouro, parish of Azinhal (Castro Marim), has been in the aftermath phase since 4:46 am this morning.

According to a source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, the fire was considered under control by 23:24 pm, causing no damage to homes or injuries.

At about 20:00 pm yesterday, and due to increased resources, the front heading towards the Guadiana was already dominated. At that time, the only cause of concern was the front, which continued to advance towards the village of Junqueira.

Ao Sul Informação, a source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command said at the time that there were «some sensitive points, scattered buildings, but we have the means positioned on the ground». This front was also dominated around 23:20.

Contacted by our newspaper, the mayor of Castro Marim said yesterday that “tens of hectares had already burned, namely stone pines, cork oaks, holm oaks and olive groves”.

"The wind was very strong, with gusts of around 70 kilometers per hour, and it burned a lot in a short time", added Francisco Amaral.

At the moment, in the aftermath operations, 100 operators are still on site, supported by 34 vehicles.
