Great Exhibition of Wines of Portugal opens today in Albufeira

Event is organized by the Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira in partnership with the Municipality

The best national wines are highlighted at EMA – Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira, in the 12th edition of the Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal, which runs from today until next Sunday, May 14th.

The event is organized by the Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira in partnership with the Municipality.

According to the Câmara de Albufeira, «this is one of the most renowned events of its kind held in Portugal, interrupted for two years because of the pandemic, and which in its last edition had more than a hundred exhibitors and nine thousand participants. An excellent opportunity to taste and buy the best national wines».

The event, which has the participation of more than a hundred producers from the most varied national wine regions, «is already considered one of the most prestigious and visited wine shows in the country, having been growing from year to year, both in number of visitors and exhibitors», highlights the mayor of Albufeira.

José Carlos Rolo recalls that «wine represents an important slice of national exports, with the Algarve and Albufeira in particular having assumed a prominent role in the area, with the wine sector being an excellent complement to sun and beach tourism».

This Friday, the doors are open between 15:00 and 20:00. On the remaining days (13th and 14th), the Exhibition closes later, at 21:30.

Over the course of three days, winegrowers, winemakers, sector and catering professionals, as well as connoisseurs in general – without forgetting Portuguese and foreign tourists who visit the region, have an excellent opportunity to taste and purchase only great national brands, such as wines from small productions that are not usually for sale in the usual channels. «This is also one of the secrets of the success of the Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal», underlines the municipality.

In parallel, the show also promotes other regional products, such as olive oil and delicacies made by great chefs from the Algarve, in various show cookings.

Dishes are presented that manage to combine good wine with the best of national cuisine, in a tribute to the Mediterranean diet.

The event also features a Wine Contest, where the best nectars present at the event will be distinguished and entertainment with the Coral Group of Alentejo Albufeira, throughout the weekend, from 17 pm.

Entrance to the event is free, however to participate in the wine tasting it is necessary to purchase the official glass, which costs 5 euros.
