Inspection of the secret departments did not detect illegal action by the SIS in the recovery of the laptop

Conclusion was announced in a press release

The SIRP Supervisory Board said today that the elements it collected "do not allow us to conclude" that there was an illegal action by the Security Information Service in the recovery of the laptop of the former deputy of Minister João Galamba.

“The elements collected do not allow us to conclude, therefore, that there was an illegal action by the SIS, especially any violation of rights, freedoms and guarantees”, declare Joaquim Ponte, Constança Urbano de Sousa and Mário Belo Morgado, who make up the Portuguese Republic Information System Supervisory Board (CFSIRP), in a statement.

The CFSIRP points out that “there are no indications that support the adoption of any police measure by the SIS when recovering the computer in question” and that “everything points to the fact that the computer was voluntarily handed over by whoever held it, on the public road” and, he stresses, “therefore, outside the context of their domicile, and without recourse to any coercive or legally prohibited means”.

The SIS delivered the computer on the same day it was collected from “CEGER, the body responsible for the State's electronic security and the prevention of the loss or undue circulation of information”, adds the CFSIRP.
