Engineers, scientists and researchers debate the future of the Mediterranean forest in the Algarve

On the 1th and 2th of June

Forestry engineers, scientists and researchers from various parts of the country will gather in the Algarve, on the 1st and 2nd of June, to analyze the current state of the Mediterranean forest and discuss measures that promote its preservation and enhancement.

The initiative takes place within the scope of the European project “Valuation and Use of the Mediterranean Forest, the case of the Municipality of Loulé”, developed by the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation and by the Municipality of Loulé, with the support of the University of the Algarve.

The program starts with the Final Conference of the project on the 1st of June, at 09 am, in the Green Auditorium of the Faculty of Science and Technology, at the Gambelas Campus of the University of Algarve.

During the morning, guests are Helena Freitas, professor and researcher at the University of Coimbra, Eduardo Chia, researcher at INRAE ​​– Institut Nacional de Recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation e l'environnement -, Nuno Ribeiro, professor at the University of Évora is a member of the College of Forestry Engineering of the Order of Engineers, and Castelão Rodrigues is a member of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF).

After the lunch break, starting at 14 pm, the results of the project will be presented by Maria de Belém Costa Freitas and Carla Antunes, both researchers and professors at the University of Algarve.

António Xavier will present “The rural cadastre of Loulé” and Ana Valentina Masso will present the results of the survey to forestry producers, carried out during the course of the project.

 

 

The afternoon ends with a round table on the theme “The forest in the Municipality of Loulé – what future?”, which will be moderated by the journalist from Sul Informação Elisabete Rodrigues.

The event continues on the 2nd of June, when guests will take a guided tour of the interior of the municipality of Loulé, during which they will be able to meet some forestry producers from Serra do Caldeirão and have direct contact with the activities they carry out, all of which are related with products from the Mediterranean forest.

The project “Valuation and Use of the Mediterranean Forest, the case of the Municipality of Loulé” results from a joint application between the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation and the Municipality of Loulé, under the Action Plan for the Development of Endogenous Resources (PADRE).
