Two men arrested for stealing a vessel in Cabanas de Tavira

Suspects tried to flee, first in the stolen boat, then on foot

Two men were arrested this Saturday morning, the 12th, for allegedly stealing a vessel belonging to a maritime-tourist operator, in Ribeira do Almargem, in Cabanas de Tavira, announced the National Maritime Authority.

Following an alert by a person who was in the area, informing that a suspicious vessel was sailing in the Quatro Águas area, elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Tavira were immediately sent to the location.

When the crew of the suspicious vessel noticed the arrival of the Maritime Police, they immediately fled. But PM agents managed to intercept the vessel in Ribeira do Almargem.

There, the crew tried to flee on foot, so support was requested from the Tavira GNR, which would stop the men.

After contacting the owner of the vessel, it was confirmed that it had been stolen, announcing that he would file a complaint.

The Public Prosecutor's Office was contacted, and the men arrested were made defendants and notified to appear in court.
