Airplane fuel spill causes one injury and cuts A22 between Olhão and Estoi

Truck driver suffered 1st degree burns

Traffic on the A22 has been cut between the Olhão and Estoi interchanges since around 17 pm today, Thursday, and for an as yet undetermined period, due to the spillage of plane fuel that was being transported by a tanker truck and which caused injuries to the truck driver.

The man suffered "1st degree burns and was transported to Hospital de Faro», after having come into contact with the fuel, «which is corrosive», revealed to Sul Informação the Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection (CREPC) of Faro.

The spill led to the cut in traffic "in the East-West direction" (Vila Real de Santo António - Lagos), between the junctions of Olhão and Estoi, a ban on movement that will only be lifted after the situation is resolved.

At the moment, «the truck is on site and another vehicle from the same company is already on its way», revealed the CREPC.

There are 16 operating at the site, supported by 7 vehicles.
