Castro Marim decrees two days of municipal mourning for the death of José Estevens

Former mayor of Castro Marim died this Tuesday, May 23

The Municipality of Castro Marim issued this Wednesday, May 24, a note of condolence for the death of José Estevens, mayor of this Algarve municipality between 1998 and 2013, and decreed two days of municipal mourning. 

The autarchy highlights the «sense of public service, dedication and work in favor of the castromarinense community» during the 16 years of presidency.

«It is with great regret that we address our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends, having decreed two days of Municipal Mourning, 24 and 25 May, with the inherent placement at half-mast of the flag of the Municipality of Castro Marim in all municipal buildings, recommending that the Parishes, through the respective Boards, proceed in the same way with regard to their own flags», refers to the City Council in a note.

José Fernandes Estevens died this Tuesday, May 23, from a prolonged illness.

The former mayor, who was battling cancer and was a native and resident of Altura, was hospitalized at the Hospital de Faro, where he ended up dying yesterday afternoon.
