Albufeira gained a new sports space with the refurbishment and expansion of the Guia Synthetic Field, inaugurated last Sunday, May 7, in the presence of the Executive of the Municipality of Albufeira and the president of the Guia Football Club, João Cabrita.
The project results from the requalification works of this sports space, which involved an investment by the municipality of 500 thousand euros.
The president of Futebol Clube da Guia revealed that «this is a day of joy, as this is a project of great importance for the Club and for Albufeira» and thanked the former presidents of Futebol Clube da Guia for their effort in bringing this work to fruition .
José Carlos Rolo stated that «this is an investment in the parish of Guia, in Sport, Youth and Associativism».
The mayor of Albufeira also underlined that «Sport is an added value for the social development of the new generations and that the effort made in this direction is a benefit for Albufeira and for the people of Albufeira».
Cristiano Cabrita, councilor responsible for Sports and Youth and vice-president of the Chamber, said that «this is yet another opportunity to show the council's commitment to the constant progression and maintenance of sports spaces in Albufeira».
José Carlos Rolo also highlighted the importance of Sport for the Municipality, revealing that «in Albufeira there are about 3000 athletes, of which 2441 are federated, in 28 sports and more than a dozen of high quality sports venues». The mayor also expressed the «great dynamism and responsibility of the Municipality in the organization of sports events, which, together with the infrastructures, unequivocally show that Albufeira has all the conditions to be the European City of Sport, in 2026».
