Food Bank campaign collected 109 tons in the Algarve

«This solidarity campaign was a success due to the participation of hundreds of volunteers», says Nuno Cabrita Alves

The Food Bank campaign against Hunger, which took place this weekend, 6 7 May, collected around 109 tons in the Algarve, in 98 commercial areas.

Starting this week, the collected food will begin to be distributed in the district, through 126 social solidarity institutions. Around 22 people with proven food shortages will receive baskets or prepared meals.

«This solidarity campaign was a success due to the participation of hundreds of volunteers», says Nuno Cabrita Alves, president of the Food Bank against Hunger in the Algarve.

The official also appealed to the need to support the institution "throughout the year".

At a time when the inflationary crisis continues to "push" hundreds of families into poverty, "the union of all is essential and, on behalf of Banco Alimentar do Algarve, I thank all the volunteers who joined this year cause", concludes Nuno Cabrita Alves.

Moreover, if you have not yet contributed to the Banco Alimentar do Algarve campaign, through the direct donation of food, it will still be possible to contribute through the «Ajuda Vale» campaign until the 14th of May. Vouchers will be available at checkouts in supermarkets, each with a specific barcode for the products you want to donate.

If, perhaps, you are unable to go to supermarkets on the day of the campaign or if you live or are outside Portugal, you can use the online donation portal.
