Portimonense senior basketball beats ABC Santo André and rises to the National Division I

Climbing to the Betclic Basketball League

This Sunday, the 30th, the Portimonense Sporting Clube men's senior team secured promotion to the National Basketball Division I, by defeating ABC Santo André, by 85-79, at home.

In a game played at Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Portimão, the Algarve team ended up winning the PlayOff semi-final tie-breaker, thus guaranteeing their promotion to the Betclic Basketball League next season.

This was the all-or-nothing weekend for Portimonense: after, the week before, having achieved a difficult triumph, in Sines, against ABD Santo André (71 x 70), on Saturday, at home, the Algarve team lost with the same team from Alentejo by 73-86, which forced a tiebreaker the next day, Sunday.

And then luck smiled on coach Carlos Almeida, who has been working at Portimonense since 2010 from the youth ranks.

Portimonense's squad has 14 players, half of whom come from the club's academy, which, for the coach, is an asset: "Our strength is teamwork and that was what allowed us to overcome a very complicated period. this time, caused by a series of injuries”.

This good result by Portimonense, in men, joins the recent rise to the I Division of the ACD Ferragudo women's team.
