The ceremony took place at the Palace of Belém, in Lisbon.

Tiago Cantigas and Rui Rodrigues, athletes from Casa do Povo de São Bartolomeu de Messines, were honored this Thursday, May 18th, by the President of the Republic as players of the National Wheelchair Handball Team.

The ceremony took place at Palácio de Belém, in Lisbon, and included the awarding of the title of honorary member of the Order of Merit to the president of the Portuguese Handball Federation.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced that, for now, the tribute is joint, but, in the future, he intends to honor individually the players of the selection that in November of last year were crowned European and world champions.

“It's a great team and you are part of that team. This belongs to everyone”, said the President.

Among the members of the National Team, in addition to Tiago Cantigas and Rui Rodrigues, Daniela Faria, a physiotherapist on the Quinas team and also on the Casa do Povo team from SB Messines, is also part of the team.
