The Sports Area of Praia da Rocha, in Portimão, will host, between the 15th and 18th of May, the National University Championships in Handball, Football, Footvolley and Beach Volleyball, which are resumed after a three-year interregnum, under the organization of the Academic Federation of University Sports (FADU).
During the National University Championships, jointly organized by the Academic Association of the University of the Algarve (AAAUAlg) and the Municipality of Portimão, there will be competitions for both sexes, with the involvement of more than 80 teams and a participation of more than 300 student-athletes and fifty members of the organization.
While the National University Beach Handball Championship (women's and men's) is scheduled for the 17th and 18th of May, the football competition, for men only, will take place on the 15th and 16th, while footvolley (men's ) takes place on the 18th and the volleyball championship will be decided between the 15th and 17th.
In addition to the hosts of AAUAlg, student-athletes from the Academic Association of the University of Aveiro (AAUAv), Association of Students of the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon (AEFCL), Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (IPSantarém), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA), Polytechnic of Leiria (P.Leiria), Academic Association of the University of Minho (AAUMinho), Association of Students of the Faculty of Science and Technology (AEFCT), Association of Students of Instituto Superior Técnico (AEIST), Academic Association of University of Madeira (AAUMa), Academic Association of the University of Beira Interior (AAUBI), Association of Students of the Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto (aeISEP) and University of Porto (U.Porto).
The last edition of the National University Championships took place in 2019, in Figueira da Foz.
