Monthly support of 30 euros to feed the most needy will be extended

Support will be given for two more months than originally planned

The Government will extend for another two months the monthly support of 30 euros to those who benefit from the Operational Support Program for the Most Needy People (POAPMC), taking into account the market context and the international socio-economic situation.

The ordinance was published today in Diário da República and extends for another two months the attribution of the financial support created in February, «of a complementary, exceptional and temporary nature», to «compensate the families that benefit from the program», for the increase in the costs of life.

The need for an extension has to do with the fact that it has been found that, «as a result of the market context and the international socio-economic situation, aggravated by the impacts caused by the war situation in Europe, tenders are sometimes deserted» within the scope of the POAPMC.

The situation «generates constraints and delays in the delivery of products that make up the food basket» and the Government admits that these constraints remain, despite the fact that «efforts are being developed to resolve them».

«It is important that measures are immediately reinforced in order to guarantee that all families have the conditions to ensure their food», reads in the ordinance.

This subsidy has a value of 30 euros and is paid monthly to each of the elements that are part of the household supported by the POAPMC, being dependent on diagnosis and unofficial assessment, which are carried out automatically.

Payment is the responsibility of the Social Security Institute and is made by deposit into a bank account or by postal order, directly to the beneficiary or his representative.
