Lagoa students had a «unique experience» in a national aquabike competition

«The Portuguese Powerboat Federation saw in this initiative an opportunity to promote the sport and capture future talent»

150 students from the ESPAMOL School Group, the Rio Arade School Group, in Lagoa, and the Nobel International School, in Almancil, had a «unique experience» last weekend, at Praia da Angrinha, in Ferragudo, by participating in the initiative “Powerboat goes to school”.

Students, accompanied by monitors, had the opportunity to drive Formula Futuro boats, thus having a first contact with the modality.

«The Portuguese Powerboat Federation saw in this initiative an opportunity to promote the sport and capture future talents, opening the door to young people between 8 and 18 years old, since there is competition for the youngest, divided into 5 categories. Classes 1, 2 and 3 are intended for children aged between 8 and 9 years old, between 10 and 11 years old and between 12 and 13 years old, respectively. And classes 4 and 5 are aimed at young people between 14 and 15 years old and between 16 and 18 years old, respectively», says the municipality.

The National Aquabike Championship race is part of the III Axis of the Municipal Strategy for sports development in Lagoa.

«I want to highlight the experience provided to the students of our schools, something unique and that they will certainly never forget. These major events that take place in the municipality also serve to promote the modalities among the youngest and provide them with experiences, which otherwise, would hardly have access», underlined Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.
