“The Sueca Family” has been helping those in need in Albufeira for a decade

The Swedish community of Albufeira has been supporting the Humanitarian Association of Solidarity Albufeira

There is a "Swedish Family", made up of about half a thousand citizens of that Scandinavian country, currently residing in Albufeira, who have dedicated themselves to helping those most in need, through the support they give to AHSA - Associação Humanitária de Solidariedade Albufeira, for almost a decade.

This long-standing connection was celebrated during a convivial lunch that took place last Saturday, April 29th, in the Rossio Day Center cafeteria, one of the social facilities managed by this institution, which served to strengthen ties with this community and publicize his work, AHSA organized a

The group of benefactors, «mostly retired people who found the ideal conditions for their time of rest in the south», have been making efforts to raise funds to support the association, with special focus on the children that the institution supports, according to the AHSA .

School material, clothes and shoes, eyeglasses, medicines and medical consultations are some of the goods acquired with the contribution of this community, in an estimate that varies between 900 and 1000 euros per month.

«The Swedish community has been very present in what is AHSA's day-to-day and permanently contributes so that we can provide better social responses to those who seek us out», stresses Carlos Santos, president of AHSA, an IPSS from the municipality of Albufeira on the way to the 25 years of existence.

«They have been with us for about nine years, when they started to contribute to our work in the most varied areas», he adds.

In addition to the direct contribution, «the trips back to Albufeira, after holidays with the family in Sweden, are always synonymous with new offers, especially for the youngest, whether they are clothes or toys that can still be used».

Noushin Nadjafi, one of the representatives of this community and «the biggest enthusiast of this project», revealed, for her part, that «the relationship we have with AHSA allows us to better understand the problems of the community where we are inserted and how we can contribute».

«This is also a way of saying thank you for the way we are welcomed here and of feeling integrated», he says.

«This is a partnership to continue, because we believe a lot in the work of AHSA, in its mission and we are certain that our contribution will reach those who really need it», concluded the representative of “The Swedish Family”.

In addition to managing the Rossio Day Centre, AHSA also develops various actions to support families, starting with the allocation of food baskets, clothing, toys and school supplies.

At a time when «the features of the current crisis are well established, with the demand for food support skyrocketing in recent months, the AHSA «has been looking for solutions in order to increase the possible response, and for which the Swedish community was even more sensitized».
