“The Art of Ornamentation in the Houses of Odeleite and Castro Marim” is the theme of the commented tour, with the architect Marta Santos, which will take place on the 7th of May, as part of the programming of Mercadinhos na Aldeia (1st Sunday of each month, in Odeleite).
«The ornamentation of the facades, using various coating techniques, such as whitewashing, marbled, plasterwork, sgraffiti and relief work in mortar, in addition to their technical and constructive requirements, reveal the existence of a specialized and organized working class of craftsmen, as well as the motivations and tastes of those who order them', explains the Câmara de Castro Marim, which organizes the tour.
The municipality of Castro Marim «stands out for the originality and erudition of these coating techniques, showing an organized and specialized network of master builders and an enlightened order in the art of ornamentation of the house, not only in the architecture of the city but in that of the rural centers ».
The proposal for a walk through the village of Odeleite will allow «the observation of various decorative programs in the ornamentation of the house, establishing parallels between the architecture of the rural parishes of the rest of the municipality, with its own historical urban nucleus and also its relations with Vila Real of San Antonio”.
The tour will last approximately two hours (9:30-11:30) and will take place in the villages of Odeleite and Foz de Odeleite.
