Tavira installs 4 shelters for cat colonies

Autarchy foresees the placement of these structures in 17 more colonies located in different parishes of the county

The first standardized enclosure for cat colonies in the municipality of Tavira, consisting of four units, has already been installed.

The objective of this measure is "to facilitate the population control of wild and feral cats that live on the street, allowing a more efficient application of the CED program (Capture - Sterilization - Return) so that the number of cats does not grow uncontrollably", says the municipality.

The CED Program has been carried out by the Municipality of Tavira over the years, including sterilization, vaccination and chipping in cats.

In a note, the Municipality reinforces that caregivers must signal the appearance of new animals for the application of the program, as well as when veterinary medical care is needed.

«The placement of these shelters enhances the positive aspects of the CED program and improves the conditions in which wild and feral cats belonging to a colony live», says the municipality, which foresees the placement of these structures in 17 more colonies located in different parishes of the county .
