São Brás de Alportel celebrates the 25th of April with urban art, exhibitions, stories and cinema

Kick-off for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution will be given on the 25th

Urban art, exhibitions, stories and cinema, as well as the inauguration of the Espaço Comunidade de São Brás Alportel, will form part of the program celebrating the 49th anniversary of the 25th of April in this county, and the start of celebrations for the half century since the Revolution dos Carnations, which will take place next year.

The highlight of the program, according to the São Brás de Alportel Chamber, will be the launch of the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, which will take place during the Solemn Commemorative Session on the 25th, where the Commemorations Commission for this event will be presented.

But the activities of this diversified program begin with the exhibition “Censored Letters”, which will be on display at the Municipal Library from April 21st to May 26th.

The Library also invites you to participate in the story time “Tapete Voador”, which «invites grandparents to tell their grandchildren about their experience before, during and after the revolution», on the 22nd, at 16 pm.

The program also includes the seventh art, with the municipality, in partnership with CinemaLua, inviting people to see the film “Salgueiro Maia – o Implicado”, at São Brás Cineteatro Jaime Pinto, starting at 15 pm on Sunday, April 15.

On the 24th, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel inaugurates a mural in honor of João de Azevedo, a plastic artist who lived in the village of Alportel and author of the covers of Zeca Afonso's musical albums.

«It is precisely in Largo da Alportel village, outside the Centro Museológico do Alportel that this mural will be made known for the first time, from 18 pm, in a joint work by the Algarve artist Sen and the artist’s nephew, filmmaker Hugo Azevedo”, reveals the municipality.

On the 25th of April, the protocol ceremonies begin at 10 am, in front of the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel.

The National Flag will be hoisted by the Volunteer Firefighters of São Brás de Alportel accompanied by the National Anthem interpreted by the Philharmonic Band of São Brás de Alportel. This will be followed by a Solemn Session in the Main Hall of the Parish Council, where the Commission for the Commemorations of the 50th Anniversary of April 25, 1974 will be presented.

This is followed by the inauguration of Espaço Comunidade, installed in the building of the former headquarters of the Parish Council, next to the Municipal Market, which resulted from a project developed under the “healthy neighborhoods” programme.

This new space was born from the rehabilitation of the building that housed the parish headquarters for many years.

On the 26th, at 18 pm, it will take place at the Dr. Estanco Louro the lecture “Literary censorship in the Estado Novo”, by the researcher and poet Maria Luísa Francisco.
