The Municipal Assembly (AM) of Faro approved, this Friday, March 31, two recommendations on Fagar: one from the PS, which calls for the immediate revocation of the tariff, and another, from the PSD, which talks about a «revision» of prices.
The motions had different votes.
That of the PS received favorable votes from the socialists, the CDU, the Left Block and the PAN. Chega, MPT and a PSD deputy abstained.
The Social Democratic Party, the CDS and the Liberal Initiative voted against.
The motion presented by the coalition PSD, CDS, MPT, PPM and IL had votes in favor of the coalition, PAN and BE. Members of the PS and CDU benches voted against.
In a press release, PS/Faro says he "does not conform" to the Fagar's "brutal" increases, made "in defiance of ERSAR guidelines".
According to the socialists, the «proposed solution» – that of repealing the tariff – «is the only one that, immediately and effectively, protects families and the small and medium business fabric from Faro».
However, in the PSD's recommendation, which was also approved, what is requested is an "immediate adjustment of the tariff for basic sanitation (domestic and non-domestic) that should equitably distribute the increase between the fixed rate and the variable rate (levels) in order to contribute to a greater prevalence of the consumer-pays and polluter-pays concepts, resulting in a more conscientious, regulated and environmentally correct consumption and use of the resource "water".
The Social Democrats also ask that «a revision of the tariffs be foreseen for 2024, aiming at a generalized reduction in prices, reconciling the interest of Farense families and companies with the economic viability of Fagar, integrating the recommendations of “ERSAR” into the definition of the tariff reduction ” with regard to excessive levels of coverage of expenses, referring to wastewater sanitation services».
Added to this is the «creation of a municipal regulation that aims to support, through a Social Tariff, the most economically vulnerable families, as well as large families».
Fagar should also, in the opinion of the PSD, send a clarification to “consumers explaining in detail the tariff increase, for the sake of transparency and the good explanation to which our residents are entitled”.
The PS, in turn, insists that, on the part of the Municipality and Fagar, the tariff increase be revoked.
«Between Fagar and Farenses, the PSD, CDS and IL chose FAGAR, an attitude it deserves from the PS/Faro total repudiation as it is obviously harmful, unfair and painful for families and the business fabric», it reads.
«We maintain our stance of always being on the side of the Farense population and we will do everything to make the immediate reversal of the tariffs in force become a reality and thus put an end to the tremendous injustice that was imposed on the citizens», concludes the PS.
