Producers want to introduce OstraSelect to tourists

Aid has already been requested from the Algarve Tourism Board

With "business going very well", the producers of OstraSelect, whose nurseries are located on the banks of the Ria de Alvor, in the Vale da Lama area, in the municipality of Lagos, continue to to fight to make the product and the entire production known to tourists.

«Our oysters are recognized for the characteristic flavor they have in the region, we have not had any problems with sales, which are always increasing, but I think it makes perfect sense to promote our product», said the Sul Informação Rui Ferreira, from OstraSelect, on the day the venue hosted a meeting within the scope of World Class Portugal.

The idea is that people can «pay a visit to our nursery».

«We explain the production system, the biodiversity of the place and then, at the end, give some oysters to taste, with a glass of wine from the region», said this person in charge.

The producer believes that the possibility of obtaining this license «was good for the business and for the region itself», but complains that in Portugal it is «everything is very difficult».

«The only thing they tell us is that we are in a productive system and that it makes no sense to have tourism here, something that is not coherent given that, from spring onwards, dozens of people are here every day in the Ria: doing ksurfing and other things for which they often don't even have a license», says Rui Ferreira, stressing that, although they've been trying to get a license for a long time, they're not going to give up.

According to the producer, assistance was again requested from the Algarve Tourism Board, «which is also interested in this», with the attempt that «it is a possibility already this summer».

Currently, OstraSelect sells from Vilamoura to Sagres, but most of the product continues to be exported to France.
