Electricity and gas prices with historic highs in the EU in the 2nd half of 2022

Between June and December 2022, the average price of electricity for domestic consumption rose to 28,4 euros per 100 kilowatt hours

Electricity and gas prices for domestic consumption were, in the second half of 2022, the highest in the European Union (EU) since there are records by Eurostat, was released today.

According to the EU statistical service, between June and December 2022, the average price of electricity for domestic consumption rose to 28,4 euros per 100 kilowatt hours (kWh), compared to 23,5 euros in the same half of 2021 , and that of gas increased to 11,4 euros per 100 kWh, which compares with the homologous price of 7,8 euros per 100 kWh.

Eurostat points out that after record values ​​reached record values, with the rise in energy prices skyrocketing following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia (on February 22, 2022), the measures adopted by Member States to mitigate the escalation already contributed to the stabilization of costs.

The share of taxes in the cost of electricity has already dropped sharply from 36% to 16% in the EU average (-18,3%) and in that of gas from 27% to 14% (-15,8%), easing the domestic consumers, but, warns Eurostat, overloading public accounts.
