The use of masks in health care establishments or in support of the elderly is no longer mandatory, according to a decree-law approved today by the Government.
In presenting the conclusions of today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of the Presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva announced that the decree-law that determines the end of the mandatory use of masks in health establishments and services, which had been imposed following the covid-19 pandemic.
The minister added that it is also no longer mandatory to use a mask in residential structures, reception, or home support services for vulnerable populations, elderly people or people with disabilities.
The same happens in the units of the national network of continuous care, where the mandatory use of the mask still existed.
Covid-19 caused more than 26.000 deaths in Portugal, resulting from more than 5,5 million cases of infection.
Covid-19 is an infectious respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, a type of virus detected three years ago in China and which has spread rapidly around the world, having assumed several variants and subvariants, some more contagious than others.
