Loulé receives the Sophia Award for “Filmes com Estrelas – Portuguese Open Air Cinema”

“Filmes com Estrelas” seeks to promote the seventh Portuguese-speaking art, in open-air spaces, with the population of the various parishes of Loulé

“Movies with Stars – Portuguese Open Air Cinema” earned Loulé City Council a distinction in the Sophia Awards.

The management of the Academia Portuguesa de Cinema awarded the prize in the “Art & Technique” category to this initiative organized by the Loulé Film Office, during the summer months.

Created in 2015, “Filmes com Estrelas” seeks to promote the seventh Portuguese-speaking art, in outdoor spaces, among the population of the various parishes of Loulé, with main emphasis on rural and inland areas.

With free admission, the event intends to fill the hot nights of July to August with moments of leisure, by taking films to villages and places without cinemas but which find the ideal place for their realization in “natural stages”.

The poster is composed exclusively of Portuguese productions from more recent years. This is also an event that contributes to promoting territorial cohesion, extending a bit of cultural activity to areas further away from urban centers.

Over the years, the public had the opportunity to watch films such as “José e Pilar”, “Snu”, “Gabriel”, “Listen”, “A Film shaped like that”, “Terra Nova”, “A Metamorfose dos dos Birds", "Pedro and Inês" or "Bem Bom", among others, in different sessions that were attended by directors and actors from Loulé.

Established in 2012, one year after the creation of the Portuguese Film Academy, the Sophia Awards are awarded annually with the aim of recognizing the best national production.

«This award is intended to distinguish professionals who have made a valuable contribution to the Cinematographic Arts in Portugal in the last year. That is why, with great pride, we received this recognition», underline the municipal officials.
