Lagos celebrates April 25th with tribute concert to Chico Buarque

Celebrations begin on the 22nd

A tribute concert to Chico Buarque, a show by the association “Questão Repetida” and initiatives in homage to Zeca Afonso. This is how Lagos will mark the 25th of April.

At the Centro Cultural de Lagos, the celebrations begin on the 22nd, at 18 pm, with “Revolutions” by the association Questão Repetida, a multidisciplinary show that involves music, poetry, movement and art around the very concept of “revolution”.

On April 24 (21:30), the day Chico Buarque receives the Camões Prize, “Quem te vi, quem te ver” will take place, a tribute concert to this icon of Brazilian music by artists Thais Motta and Marcus Lima. This show will be free of charge (it is necessary to pick up the ticket at the Cultural Center).

The morning of April 23rd will be dedicated to Zeca Afonso, who even lived in Lagos, at the Municipal Library, through the music and dramatic expression workshop “Zeca Afonso, do you know who he is?” by Catrapum Catrapeia (10h00), which will be based on the book “O Homem da Gaita”.

At 12h00, participants will have the opportunity to speak with the book's illustrator, Rui Pedro Lourenço.

On the 25th of April, the official celebrations will take place in Praça Gil Eanes as usual.

At 9 am, the “Flag Raising Ceremony” will take place, followed by the joint “Solemn Session” of the Lagos City Council and Municipal Assembly, with the launch of pigeons by the Clube Columbófilo de Odiáxere and musical moments by the band of the Philharmonic Society Lacobrigense 30.º de Maio and Coral Group of Lagos.

Also that morning (11:30 am), the guided tour “Lagos, the military and the revolutions” will take place, with the historian Artur de Jesus, who will take participants on a journey through the places and moments alluding to the Day of Freedom in Lagos (free registration in online form).
