Man in need of medical assistance rescued from a drifting sailboat off Olhão

Elements of the Maritime Authority came to the aid of the three crew members of the vessel

A man in need of medical assistance was rescued yesterday afternoon from a sailboat that was adrift off Ilha da Armona, in Olhão, and was helped by members of the Maritime Police and the Lifeguard Station of Olhão and Tavira .

This was one of the three crew members of the sailboat who received help from the National Maritime Authority (AMN), following an alert given around 17 pm this Monday.

After being warned of the existence of a vessel «drifting without propulsion about four nautical miles (7,4 kilometers) from Barra da Armona, in Olhão», AMN sent means to the place, which found that one of the crew, 50 years old, «needed medical assistance».

The man was taken ashore by the lifeboat, where he was assisted by a Portuguese Red Cross team.

"The sailboat was later towed by a trailer, with the elements of the Maritime Police accompanying the journey to the recreational port of Olhão", according to AMN.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Olhão took care of the occurrence.
