Loan for the work on the Algarve Stadium «is practically paid off»

Mayor of Faro says that the Stadium «does more than 150 activities throughout the year»

The loan made by the Association of Municipalities Loulé/Faro for the construction of the Algarve Stadium is "practically paid", given that only "about 400 thousand euros" remain to be settled, of the approximately 24 million euros contracted. 

The revelation was made by Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, aside from the signing of the protocol between the Association of Municipalities Loulé/Faro and CHUA for the transfer of the land where the Southern Reference Oncology Center, which took place in the press room of Estádio Algarve.

«Contrary to what many people said, I have always been a defender of this space», said the Faro mayor, referring that the Stadium «serves the entire region» and «does more than 150 activities throughout the year».

“Most people don't even notice it, but they do. Every week we have activities here, they are not activities that have great notoriety, like when the National Football Team comes to play, for example. When teams come to play Faro, from Loulé, or even from other councils in the Algarve, no one knows except themselves», he continued.

Rogério Bacalhau also reinforced that the work «is not limited to the stadium» and that, at the moment, they are building three more training camps.

«There is a set of equipment that was foreseen in the Detailed Plan for this area. Today we have here another piece of equipment to install [the Oncological Center of Reference of the South] that will certainly contribute to the dynamization and use of this Detailed Plan that we have», concluded the mayor.

The work on the Algarve Stadium cost around 38 million euros, with the Association of Municipalities Loulé/Faro contracted two medium and long-term loans, one for 16,9 million euros and the other for 7 million euros. The State co-funded the work at 9,9 million euros.

Estádio Algarve was inaugurated on November 23, 2003, with a game between the football teams of Portugal and England, which ended in a 1-XNUMX tie.
