Ecovia and Ciclovia do Litoral Sudoeste de Vila do Bispo is already under construction

The project will cost more than 1,6 million euros

An ecopath of more than 26 kilometers, which will connect Sagres to the municipality of Aljezur, and a cycle path of about 5,5 kilometers, between Cabo de São Vicente and the roundabout of the four roads of Sagres, have already started to be built in Vila do Bishop.

The construction of these two infrastructures, which together will be 31,531 kilometers long, represents a global investment of more than 1,6 million euros.

The definition of the route for the two roads «was based on the preferential use of existing roads, with reduced traffic and high scenic value», according to the Town Council of Vila do Bispo.

According to the municipality, the two infrastructures under construction «have different characteristics: while the ecovia tends to serve bicycle trips along the coast (N/S) and of greater distance and duration, the cycle path is a shorter cycling path , which serves as a connection between various points of interest on the route, essentially the coast and beaches».

This work will be supported by the Algarve Regional Operational Program (CRESC Algarve 2020) in the amount of 630.585,22 euros. The remainder will be borne by the City Council.

«The Ecovia and Ciclovia do Litoral Sudoeste is a structural project for Vila do Bispo in terms of mobility and the attractiveness of the territory, as it will constitute an important step in the construction of a sustainable and environmentally friendly municipality. By providing 31,531 km of cycling and pedestrian routes, it is encouraging sports, contributing to greater well-being», concludes the Chamber.
