The tourist accommodation sector registered 1,7 million guests in February, 33,0% more than in the same month of the previous year and 4,0 million overnight stays, an increase of 38,5%, indicated today the INE.

These indicators corresponded to 245,7 million euros of total income and 179,5 million euros of income from accommodation, indicators that recorded year-on-year growth of 60,3% and 62,0%, respectively, points out the National Statistics Institute ( INE).

According to INE, «comparing with February 2020, when significant effects of the pandemic crisis were not yet observed in Portugal, there were increases of 26,4% in total revenue and 30,3% in revenue from accommodation».

The average income per available room (RevPAR) stood at 36,3 euros in the month under review, while the average income per occupied room (ADR) reached 79,3 euros, corresponding to respective increases of 49,5% and 16,7% compared to February 2022.

Compared to the same month of 2020, RevPAR grew by 27,3% and ADR by 22,4%, adds INE.

Among the municipalities with the highest representation in total overnight stays, INE highlighted Albufeira, which «continued to show a reduction in overnight stays compared to 2020 (-21,4%), both from residents (-31,1%) and from non-residents ( -19,3%)».

In the first two months of this year, total overnight stays grew by 52,9% (27,2% among residents and 70,6% among non-residents), which corresponded to increases of 75,6% in total income and 77,9. 2020% for rooms. Compared to the same period in 23,7, there were increases of 26,9% and XNUMX%, respectively.

As for most types of accommodation, in the first two months of the year there were 3,3 million guests (+47,6%) and 8,1 million overnight stays (50,7%).

In February, Área Metropolitana de Lisboa concentrated 37,0% of total revenue and 39m2% of revenue from accommodation, followed by the North (16,3% and 16,5%, respectively), the Algarve (15,6% and 14,0%) and the Autonomous Region of Madeira (15,4% and 14,7%).

INE points out that the highest growth occurred in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Lisbon (+82,5% in total revenue and +84,4% in revenue from accommodation) and in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (+78,8% and +90,8% , respectively).

Compared to February 2020, the evolutions in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (+41,2% and +51,0%, respectively) and in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Lisbon (+29,9% and +36,0%, respectively) stand out. in the same order), adds the statistical institute.
