Arrested fraudster who deceived isolated elderly people with a story about 50-euro bills

The man was remanded in custody

A 54-year-old man, who deceived elderly people who lived in isolation, posing as a bank employee, was arrested by the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police, announced this Saturday, April 1, the PJ.

According to the authorities, the man used the argument that the older 50-euro notes would no longer circulate, so they should be exchanged.

The alleged fraudster got the victims to let him into their homes, exposing the place, "where they kept their goods and their savings".

Several bundles of €50 notes were seized, which are presumed to result from the crimes they committed, as well as a prohibited firearm.

It is admitted that there may be more victims yet to be identified.

The man was remanded in custody.
