The secretary general of the PS considered this Sunday, April 23, that «the Portuguese don't care» for the conversation about a possible dissolution of parliament and defended that the will expressed by the voters must be respected.

In an interview with RTP, broadcast last night, as secretary general of the PS, António Costa maintained that this is "a theme that is outside the agenda of the lives of the Portuguese" and is fueled by the "media bubble and a certain political world" .

“We are not going to be here creating artificial crises. I understand that there is a right here that cannot bear the idea that this parliamentary mandate will be fulfilled and that they are not capable of respecting the will of the Portuguese. And an artificial climate is created here to try to put on the agenda a topic that is outside the agenda of the life of the Portuguese. My agenda, the Government's agenda, the PS's agenda is the agenda of the life of the Portuguese", he said.

Asked if he thought the way was being opened for early elections, the socialist leader and prime minister replied that early elections were held a year ago, on January 30, and the Portuguese «voted for stability for four years», give an absolute majority to the PS.

“We have to get used to, first of all, respecting the will of citizens. And the will of the citizens was very clear», he defended.

«What they said was that they wanted stability for four years, they wanted a Government that could start, develop its work and be evaluated at the end of its work. That is what we must do in the first place”, he added.

According to António Costa, «there is a huge distinction here between what is the debate of what I have called the media bubble and a certain political world and what is the day-to-day life of citizens».

Turning to the journalist who conducted this interview, Hugo Gilberto, he said: «if you notice, in the polls that have come out there is a very interesting thing, is that the overwhelming majority of people do not even respond. I've seen polls there where, in order to have 600 or so responses, you have to make almost 2.000 contacts, because people don't care».

«No, I think the Portuguese don't care. The Portuguese clearly do not want any dissolution. The Portuguese do not want politicians to create problems. What the Portuguese want is for politicians to solve problems », she reinforced.
