Commission starts investigating «next week» alleged errors in the Surgery Service of Faro

The independent commission, which will evaluate the alleged errors and cases of negligence in the surgery service of Hospital de Faro, will be «on the ground from next week», announced this Friday, April 14, the president of the Southern Regional Council of the Order of Doctors. 

The announcement was made by Paulo Simões, in a statement to journalists, with no questions asked.

At the end of a visit this Friday to Hospital de Faro, following the complaints made by the internal physician Diana de Carvalho Pereira of the alleged errors and cases of negligence in the surgery servicethe president of the Southern Regional Council guaranteed that he wants these situations to be "quickly" investigated.

«The Order of Physicians came to Hospital de Faro to listen, on the spot, what there was to report in relation to the state of operation of the General Surgery Service», said Paulo Simões.

 

 

The official assured that the Order left «with more information» from this meeting that will be «reported to the Independent Commission».

This visit today served to carry out a «first sounding out», trying to understand «what is happening with the service from an organizational point of view», speaking with the Board of Directors, clinical management and the doctors of the service: both specialists and internal.

«What we want is for this to be quickly investigated and concluded in order to be able to promote safety, in relation to the patients who come to this Hospital», Paulo Simões said.

Moreover, Ana Varges Gomes, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, urged yesterday that the users keep their trust in Hospital de Faro.

O The Public Prosecutor's Office has also launched an investigation about the alleged errors and cases of negligence in the surgery service of Hospital de Faro denounced by the intern physician Diana de Carvalho Pereira.
