Algarve cyclist Liliana Jesus wins stage of the Portuguese Women's Cup in Albufeira

The Algarve cyclist Liliana Jesus won the second competition of the Portuguese Women's Cup, Jogos Santa Casa, which took place yesterday, Saturday, in Albufeira.

The athlete from Extremosul/Hotel Alísios/CA Terras do Arade was better than Cristiana Valente (Glassdrive/Chanceplus/Allegro), who finished the race in 2nd place, but could not dethrone her from the top of the elite general classification.

In a race held on a circuit around the Albufeira Marina, «the 77 kilometers of the elite and under-23 competition ended with a sprint between three cyclists. Liliana Jesus was the fastest, relegating Cristiana Valente to the second position and Ana Caramelo (Maiatos) to the third position. The three finished with 1h57m43s and more than a minute of advantage over the most direct pursuers in the elite category», according to the Portuguese Cycling Federation.

This outcome allowed Cristiana Valente to hold the first position overall in the Cup, with 85 points, ten more than Liliana Jesus and 40 more than Katiuska Rodríguez (Maiatos), who are in the immediate places.

 

 

Another Algarve woman who stood out on the day in Albufeira was Marta Carvalho, also from Extremosul/Hotel Alísios/CA Terras do Arade, who won the junior race, of 59 kilometres.

Extrememosul/Hotel Alísios/CA Terras do Arade was, moreover, the team winner.

Johana Diaz (Maiatos), was best under-23 in this Saturday's race and left the most direct opponents, Nádia Henriques (Glassdrive / Chanceplus / Allegro) and Mariana Viais (Cantanhede Cycling / VESAM), 2m16s and 6m06s, respectively. Nádia Henriques commands the Portuguese Cup in this category.

The winner of the cadets, who completed 43 kilometres, was Leonor Casimiro (Oeiras/Parracho Cycling School).

In the veteran categories, the master 30 Nádia Mendes (Catanhede Cycling(/VESAM), the master 40 Ana Neves (Bike & Nutrition Shop), the master 50 Filomena Gomes (Vertentability/CRG) and the master 60 Leontina Palhas (Vertentability /CRG).
