CCDR Algarve presents a salute of heartfelt condolences in honor of Manuel Baptista

Plastic artist died this Saturday, April 8

The Presidency of the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) of the Algarve publicly presents its deepest condolences to family and friends on the death of Manuel Baptista, a plastic artist who died this Saturday, April 8, at age 87. 

CCDR recalls the plastic artist from Faro as the person who was present «in practically all the museological collections of contemporary art in the country» and who received the Autores prize from the Portuguese Society of Authors, in 2012, with his exhibition “Fora de Escala”. at the Museum of Electricity.

«Manuel Baptista most recently scored and dignified with his presence at the opening of the Multimedia Exhibition Center allusive to the Discoveries in Sagres with the exhibition “Invisible Territories”. Also “out of the box“, he always defended the opportunity to open a contemporary art center in the Region, either in promoting municipal art galleries in Faro , in the 90s, or in its civic intervention, a project that unfortunately did not manage to see materialized», recalls the CCDR of the Algarve.

Manuel Baptista was born in Faro, in 1936, and in 2018 he was awarded the Medal of Honor of the City, Gold Grade.
