Alte reinforces the Aldeias de Portugal network

There are eight more locations in the country classified as “Aldeias de Portugal”, one of them in the Algarve

The brand that attests to the identity of the country's most genuine territories now reaches eight new villages. One of them is Alte, in the municipality of Loulé, which joins, in this new batch, Podence, where Entrudo Chocalheiro has been part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2019, as well as Algoso, Argas, Folhense, Moimenta da Raia, Sambade and Vale de Ílhavo.

Alte was classified as an Aldeia de Portugal «for aspects such as its scenic setting in the Serra do Caldeirão, its white houses with lace chimneys and its tradition of making wooden toys, figurines in dried esparto grass and palm leaf basketwork» .

«Next to the Queda do Vigário waterfall, the town also offers cultural proposals such as its traditional Carnival, the Polo Museológico Cândido Guerreiro, which evokes the work of the local poet and aristocrat, and the Fusos Festival, which annually brings together creators of different artistic expressions – contributing to Alte’s reputation for hosting “some of the most famous parties in the interior of the Algarve”», add the promoters of the initiative.

In addition to Alte, in the Algarve, the list of Aldeias de Portugal already included the town of Cachopo, in the Serra do Caldeirão, in the interior of the municipality of Tavira.

It is because of this “so eclectic” offer that Teresa Pouzada defends: “These new additions only prove how the Aldeias de Portugal, even in the most rural circumstances, can be active, dynamic and, in fact, a true source of inspiration when it comes to to the quality of life to which we should all aspire as a society”.

The Aldeias de Portugal brand was created by the Associação do Turismo de Aldeia, an entity made up of several institutions committed to boosting socio-economic development, promoting tourism and preserving the heritage of the rural territories most representative of the origins of the genuine Portuguese identity.
