Algarve has already started preparing for the fire season

The program ends with a large-scale exercise involving the Alentejo and Algarve regions on the 12th of May

The operational training program for the Special Device for Fighting Rural Fires (DECIR) forces in the Algarve began last Tuesday, April 7th. 

The process will continue in the coming weeks and calls for the «technical improvement of women and men who are now preparing for a period that is usually more demanding, characterized by an increase in the number of occurrences and the adverse development of fires», says the Regional Command of Emergency and Algarve Civil Protection.

There are 17 operational training actions that will reach all the Fire Brigades in the region, the Sapadores Florestais Teams, the Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS) of the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Municipal Civil Protection Services ( SMPC).

The schedule ends with a large-scale exercise involving the Alentejo and Algarve regions on the 12th of May.

With this process, the objective is to ensure an «effective and efficient response from the dedicated device, corresponding to the demanding performance indicators in the early dispatch for a fast and differentiated arrival, essential contributions for the speedy resolution of eventual occurrences, prioritizing the security of the forces and safeguarding populations".

Crawler machine operators and those responsible for their sector will also have a technical day dedicated to their involvement in the effort to suppress fires.
