hospital of Faro: Surgeon accused of negligence asked for self-suspension

The main target of complaints from the internal physician alleges pressure and stress

Surgeon Pedro Henriques accused by an internal physician of bad practices at the Hospital de Faro asked on Thursday for the temporary suspension of surgical activity, advanced SIC Notícias.

The clinician will have chosen to move away from the operating room, when four surveys and an audit are taking place to determine the veracity of the complaints.

According to SIC, pressure and stress are the reasons invoked. The doctor will have expressed willingness to continue working outside the operating room.

The surgeon and the director of the service are targeted in a criminal complaint for 11 alleged cases of error and negligence, situations that are the subject of several investigations.

The complaint to the Judiciary Police was made by internal physician Diana de Carvalho Pereira and reported on her account on the social network Twitter and Instagram, reporting alleged «11 cases that occurred between January and March» at the hospital of Faro of «error/negligence» in the surgery service.

According to the doctor, of the reported cases of 11 patients, "three died, two are hospitalized in intermediate care, the rest had bodily injury associated with medical error, ranging from accidental castration, loss of kidneys or the need for a colostomy for the rest of the life".

O Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation, just like the Doctor's order, among other entities.
