111 riders will race the “6 Hours of Portimão”

37 cars and 111 drivers will take part in the “6 Hours of Portimão” race, on the 16th of April, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. 

«The list of subscribers for the 6 Hours of Portimão (WEC) is made of enormous quality and a lot of variety», says the Autódromo, in a press release.

Jacques Villeneuve, Formula 1 (F1) World Champion in 1997 and winner of the Indianapolis 500 miles in 1995, is one of the big names, but there are 12 more names that have passed through the F1 Grand Prix, like António Giovinazzi and Pietro Fittipaldi, even test drivers for teams in the discipline, or with victories and podiums in that category like Robert Kubica, Kamui Kobayashi and Daniil Kvyat.

They are joined by Esteban Guerrieri, Andre Lotterer, Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, Paul di Resta, Jean-Eric Vérgne and Giedo Van der Garde.

There are 2012 WEC World Champions since 15. From the LMP category, there will be 10: Earl Bamber, Mike Conway, Buemi, Loic Duval, Romain Dumas, Lotterer, Kobayashi, Hartley, José Maria Lopez and Ryo Hirakawa. There are five more from the GT World Championship: Kevin Estre, Michael Christensen, Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Nicki Thiim.

With titles in the LMP2 World Cup come António Félix da Costa, Julien Canal, Gustavo Menezes, Philip Hanson, Frijns, Ferdinand von Habsburg and Charles Milesi, seven names joined by five more who won the LMGTE-Am World Cup since 2012: David Heinemeier-Hansson, Paul Dalla Lana, Nicklas Nielsen, Alessio Rovera and Ben Keating,

There are 24 overall winners in the “10 Hours of Le Mans”, including all six Toyota Gazzo Racing drivers, plus Lotterer, Bamber, Duval and Dumas.

«If we talk about class winners in Le Mans, where António Félix da Costa is on the list, we reach almost twenty names», explains the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

There are also nine European Le Mans Series (ELMS) champions: Olivier Pla, Harry Tincknell, Van der Garde, Memo Rojas, Hanson, Deletraz, Kubica, Ye Yefei and Habsburg.

From the current squad of the Formula E World Cup, in addition to António Félix da Costa, there are Vergne, Robin Frijns, Nico Muller, Buemi and Lotterer, with the Portuguese and Buemi securing titles in the discipline.

António Fuoco, Alex Lynn, Tom Dillmann, Juan Manuel Correa, Sean Galael, Oli Caldwell, Louis Deletraz, Yifei and David Beckmann will also participate.
