10 Algarve municipalities in very high danger of fire today

Maximum temperatures will fluctuate between 22ºC in Guarda and 29ºC in Faro

Aljezur, Monchique, Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira, Castro Marim and Alcoutim present today a very high danger of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

Also in the district of Santarém, the municipalities of Tomar and Vila Nova de Barquinha are at risk.

The IPMA put about six dozen other municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Leiria, Portalegre, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja and Faro.

The fire risk determined by the IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere forecast periods of very cloudy skies for today, with very cloudy weather on the coast until early morning and with the possibility of light rain or drizzle, and gradually decreasing cloudiness from the afternoon onwards.

During the afternoon in the interior regions, there is a possibility of scattered showers and the wind will blow weak to moderate from the north quadrant and sometimes strong in the highlands of the Central region and on the coastal strip during the afternoon.

Forecasts point to a small rise in maximum temperature.

The maximum temperatures will fluctuate between 22ºC in Guarda and 29ºC in Faro.
