World Class Portugal is back to look for the best bartender

Registration is open until the 15th of April, but until then there are initiatives in the Algarve

World Class Portugal, the platform whose main event is the competition for the best national bartender, is back for its eighth edition, but until then it is carrying out several initiatives in the country, including the Algarve.

Organized by Diageo, World Class Portugal promotes learning, development of new skills and creativity for all cocktail and premium spirits professionals. Registration is open until the 15th of April, but next Tuesday, the 21st of March, an event will take place in the Algarve.

A visit to the Ostra Select Nurseries in Ria do Alvor will feature chefs João Oliveira and Fábio Quiraz, from the Vista restaurant, joined by bartenders João Costa and Nelson Matos and Miguel Salazar, from Riafresh.

The events and training courses will all have a common denominator, FIRE, which continues with the cycle started in the 2022 edition with emphasis on the EARTH element, and which will reconcile the World Class Portugal initiatives and the four elements, EARTH, FOGO, WATER and AIR.

«It is with pride and gratitude that I announce another edition of World Class Portugal, the biggest bartending competition in the world, an initiative in which learning, the development of new skills and the creativity of bar professionals are highlighted. Last but not least, the concept of sustainability is always present in everything we do, as well as showing what each region has to offer and providing interaction so that new ideas and new cocktail recipes can emerge, which include not only products from the region where they are included, such as seasonal products», says Honório Oliveira, Diageo's reserve brand ambassador for World Class in Portugal.

The first action, of the set of events, took place on the 28th of February, in Porto, and on the 9th of March, in Terrugem.

The competition will arrive in June, where the bartenders who created the 12 best cocktails will compete, among themselves, for the title of best Portuguese bartender who will represent Portugal in the global final, in São Paulo, in September.

«For the semifinal and final competition, we are designing unique initiatives that aim to impact not only the hospitality industry, but also boost the habit of drinking cocktails among the general public, which will be announced shortly», concludes Honório Oliveira.
